Although the research students put in their 100% efforts towards coming up with an excellent dissertation, yet there are times when some minor mistakes tend to creep into the final draft of the research paper. This post of mine would make you familiar with some of the most common mistakes which research scholars tend to commit while writing their dissertation documents.

Now, let me explain each of the above mentioned pointers elaborately:-

Wrong topic- This is one of the most common mistakes committed by a huge majority of research students across the globe. Scholars tend to settle down for a dissertation topic which is extremely complex and time-consuming.

Weak research-Another common mistake made by every research scholar is conducting a weak research. The scholars often fail in collecting the right kind of data for their dissertation, in a way affecting the credibility of the research document. Without planning the research document, it becomes impossible for the research student to undertake an effective research.

Absence of citations- Research students often forget to include citations within their dissertations, thereby eliminating the accuracy factor from their research paper. Without providing the proper reference, the researcher tends to create a weak research document.

Faulty grammar and misspellings- Students tend to neglect the editing and proofreading feature of their dissertations, which is yet another major mistake. Without eliminating the grammatical errors from the dissertation, the student cannot grab excellent grades.

Incorrect format- Formatting plays a crucial role in the creation of a dissertation. Students tend to ignore the creation of the dissertation using the format prescribed by the concerned university.

I hope by now you would have surely got an idea about the common mistakes which are being committed by a large group of research students residing in different corners of the world. So, just keep these points in mind and I am sure you would definitely avoid committing the same while creating your piece of research work.

The systematic literature review provides a summary of literature with relevant to a research question. The main focus of the literature review is the research question, which are to be answered with evidences. These reviews often use statistical techniques to combine the results of the concerned studies. The systematic literature review uses the objective and transparent approach with an aim of avoiding bias. More information and help on systematic research review can be availed from any of the Dissertation Services company.

Below information will help the researcher in following the steps, while writing a literature review

Planning – Planning is the first step in the process of literature review. The detailed written plan ensures the systematic review of the literature. The plan should at least contain purpose, objective and method of literature review. The purpose of the literature should be explained with background information. The objective defined in the literature review should be of measurable one. The methods should contain –

• Methodology of searching – Methodology of searching includes searching term to be included and searching terms to be excluded and limits of searching.

• Methodologies of selecting literature – Methodologies of selection include a selection of reputable source of information and the relevant article that is obtained through search using certain criteria.

Searching of article – Searching relevant literature using reputed search engine tools, as explained by the methodology. The search outcome needs to be reviewed against certain criteria. All the relevant information collected and sources of the information needed to be noted down for a reference list.

Selection of articles: Selection of the article is done based on the review of the outcome. While reviewing the information collected, the researcher needs to pay special attention towards the author. All the relevant information or data should be highlighted. The best way to collect the relevant information is by forming tables.

Prepare data analysis report: This can be approached through a table, graph and statistical method.

Writing of reports: Literature review is more systematic than writing the report and can be considered as an easy task.

Report writing should include purpose, objective, Literature review method, search results, exclusion and inclusion of search result. The purpose and objective should be rewritten as same as written in the review plan in past tense.

Under literature review method, the researcher should provide the actual methodology that is used to review the literature. If there is any deviation from the plan and actual plan used, the researcher should justify it with relevant information. Actual results of the search should be reported under the search result with references. Report on exclusion and inclusion of articles should also be added to the literature review with justification. More information on the steps involved in systematic literature review can be found by taking the assistance of any Dissertation Services Company.

Research data means the form of facts, images, recordings, computer program results and measurements. Data may be in the form of numerical, visual and descriptive. Collected data may include details about a person or object. Data collection helps in such a way that in future, the researcher will not have any problem to get information about the subject. The data in its original structure and form is known as raw data. Data collection and presentation is one of the main steps in the entire research process. Data presentation is the heart of the research document. It justifies the entire research objective in a quantitative manner. Dissertation Services is one of the external service providers where students can seek help of the collected data.

Data presentation plays a crucial role in communication research, as the objectives are made clear with relevant evidences. The researchers can convince their research to the reader by the effective data presentation. Effective data presentation can gain the confidence of the reader of the research document. Data presentation in research document briefs entire research in a systematic manner. There may be many pieces of data collected by the researcher, but in the stage of data presentation all collected data are well organized, presented and analysed. More guidelines on the importance of data presentation are available in the website of any Dissertation Services Company -

Following are the various methods of data presentation

• Textual

Textual data are data presentation in the form of texts and paragraph; this is useful when describing the key findings in the research.

• Tabular

This is more reliable and effective way of showing relationships and comparing the data using table format. Accompanying table with a short explanation makes the matter more clear and understandable.

• Graphical Displays

Graphical presentation of data is an effective way of presentation of data by using statistical graphs. Graphical data presentation is interesting and attractive way of presentation. There are many types of graphical presentation.

Bar graph: Presentation of data using rectangular bars, length of the bar represents the quantity. The reader can easily compare the quantity by just observing the length of the bar.

Multiple bar graphs: Multiple bar graphs are useful when a researcher wants to compare figures of two or more different data. Data presentation with bar graphs make the reader understand data easily.

Pie chart: Use to present quantities to make up a whole.

Line chart: Line chart is useful when a researcher wants to analyse the trend of the data.

Variables can be said as entities that take different values. Anything that has variations can be said to be a variable and differs from one situation to the other. Variables are not always numerical or quantitative. One can assign qualitative values instead of text values, but one need not have to assign numbers in order to make it a variable. Each variable has its own role and purpose. The comparison of variables is used to determine the relationships between the variables by observing different groups that are exposed to different situations either by choice or circumstances. The comparison of variable includes both retrospective studies as well as prospective studies. Comparison of variable in research analysis is similar to the experimentation that involves comparing group in order to control, but differs in the methodology observed. Variables can be classified into different types, based on which the variables are compared.

Independent Variable- This is that factor which is measured or selected by the experimenter to determine the relationship with an observed phenomenon. In a research study, independent variables are presumed to affect a dependent variable and are either manipulated or are observed by the researcher, so that the values of the variables can be related to the dependent variable. In a study where one variable causes the other, the independent variable is the cause. Similarly, in a study where groups are compared, the independent variable can be considered as the group classification.

Dependent Variable- This is that factor which is observed to determine the effect of the independent variables. The independent variable defines a focus of research interest and is the consequent variable that is affected by one or more than one independent variable. These are either manipulated or observed by the researcher and is regarded as the conditions that determine the value of the dependent variable. The dependent variable can be said as the outcome, where in an experiment it changes as a result of the output. The dependent variable differ in comparison of groups.

Moderator Variable- The factor that is measured or selected by the experimenter to know whether it is capable of modifying the relationship of independent variables to an observed phenomenon. This is a special kind of independent variables. The relationship of the independent variable may change with the dependent variable under various circumstances.

In this way, one can compare variable in research analysis, based on their kind.

Writing Research papers with peers consists of some sessions, where each session will emphasize a good practice in scientific writing to recognize what is valued in specific disciplinary areas. The participant will be needed to prepare an abstract of the research paper. One needs to write a brief statement about the research paper they have chosen, and why their approach is more suitable. Below are the sections for writing a research paper with a peer -

Abstract – This section includes research statement and an idea about the methods followed for study, as well as the importance of research

Outline -The headings should indicate what one would expect to write under each heading. Identify the work that needs to be completed before writing the final paper.

Review process – The next section will focus on the review process and more on informal approaches to give and receive feedback. The participants will be asked to read and comment on each others’ abstracts and outlines.

Before starting a research paper it is useful to think about the roadmap for the writing process. Researchers can take the following steps, as soon as they get an idea for a research paper –

1. The topic of the research paper should be unique and one should have all the logical reasons to study it. Do regular homework. Make sure that what the previous researchers and investigators published on the similar topics. Before trying a new project, one should consider a good literature review.
2. Plan the experimental design. For this, one should devote more time. Usually, young researchers rush into hands-on work, without designing the study properly.
3. Choose the materials wisely and have a look at the literature to know what others did. If you are writing a research paper for the first time, make sure that you consult an experienced friend or professional.
4. Clearly state the hypothesis before starting the actual work. Focus more on researching about the hypothesis. Also know the endpoints of your experiment.
5. When you want to publish your study, then have the peer group go through the study. If you are planning for a high-impact research paper or a journal, then you may need extensive research and data collection.
6. If your research work involves some data, take permissions from the respective participants and communities.

In this way, with due care, one can jointly write a research paper to a peer.

Send in your requirement today at info@dissertationindia.com or call at +91-11-2735-7534, +91-11-45680335.

Doctoral Research or a Doctorate Program offers a professional degree to the person pursuing this course. This doctoral degree certifies the person to pursue an academic career in a specific field.

Attaining a research doctorate degree is not an easy task as it requires a lot of effort and time of the candidate after completing the Master’s level. Only after successfully submitting an original research work, commonly known as a thesis, a candidate is awarded with the doctoral research degree. The person who successfully attains the doctorate degree is referred to as a Doctor.

Tenure

The duration of the Doctoral Research program varies from country to country as well as the subject and the area of research. For example, in Canada, the candidate can complete the PhD degree in 4 to 6 years, during which the first three years are for completion of coursework, and the remaining time is to be given for research work.

In Germany, a candidate has to complete the doctorate in a stipulated time of 3 to 5 years in which he is fully involved in independent research work under the guidance of a single professor. In the UK, candidate has to attain the degree in four years and in the US, the candidate can take up to ten years to complete the doctorate program.

Stages

Getting a doctorate degree involves a lot of hard work and dedication. The task is not easy and you have to go through a number of stages before you actually get a doctorate. After you have finalized the program and the university, the next important step is to select the area of research and the mentor who can supervise and guide your work throughout the course. Try to select the mentor who has already conducted some research in the area of your interest and has written some research articles on the same. Make your decision on Mentor selection based on certain criteria like:

• Number of doctorate students under the guidance of the mentor
• Research projects that the mentor has worked on in the past
• Opinions of other PhD students about the mentor

The next step is to carry out an initial research to find what other scholars have already researched on your topic. This will help you with your course of action in conducting the research.

After doing all the background work, write a proposal specifying the area of research and methods you are going to use in your research work. After the research work is completed, you need to present all the work done during your research work in the form of a thesis.

An educational conference can be described as an annual academic conference that is hosted by a number of schools, colleges and universities across different countries of the world. In order to present your research paper at an education conference, you should follow some guideline and tricks, that help you in completing your presentation effectively.

• Speak for 20-25 minutes. Do not go beyond that. Presenting your research paper for 20-25 minutes can be considered as optimal and if you have more time, you can invite others for a discussion. Cover all the main points in that 20-25 minutes, so that your presentation may not feel like a lethargic one.
• For visuals and important quotes, you must use PowerPoint presentation. Don’t make your presentation as if people are reading your research paper. You need not have to include each and every point your research paper.
• Define the key terms of your paper and state the theoretical perspective of your paper. This is the method to inform others about the basic points of your research. A quick statement explaining the crucial points like – how data were viewed, how the analysis will help the participants etc. will help the audience understand more about your work.
• State the methodology that was employed to discover the findings clearly. To make this more clear, you can use an analogy or illustration. A proper analogy exhibits a great level of understanding. Additionally, a humor point will help you to create a connection with the audience.
• When people ask questions or give some comments; first, thank them for their question or comment and then proceed with answering their questions.
• Prepare and practice in advance. You can present it in front of your colleagues to raise your confidence levels. Make sure that your presentation leads to the climax. You can give some ‘take away’ statements. Try to answer as much questions as possible, which gives a dynamic ending to your presentation.

By keeping the above points in mind, one can present their research effectively at an educational conference.

The master’s dissertation is about knowing how well you can do research independently on a particular topic. This includes a theoretical as well as experimental background. The master’s dissertation should be of publishable quality and hence, it is very important to follow the internationally accepted standards while writing a research report. In order to do a clean work, one should format the master’s dissertation properly. Scholars who pursue studies from the UK universities use the Harvard style of formatting to make their work effective.

One should select appropriate references for their dissertation, so that their work is well founded. Though there are no clear numbers that how many sources should be used, it is important that the paper doesn’t rely on a few works. All works cited in the text should reflect on the list of references. Additionally, works that are not cited should not be inserted in the references. It is very important to quote the texts, information and bibliography as per the appropriate standards. The master’s level dissertation is not much concerned about showing how well you can deal with a material written in a foreign language. But, if you have the capability of reading research in a foreign language, then you are highly recommended to do it.

In order to avoid issues with plagiarism, the direct and indirect quotes should be clearly specified in the text, by inserting the reference in the brackets. Even if you are referring to other’s ideas, you need to reference them properly. The master’s dissertation will receive less marks, if they are not referenced properly. In the Harvard style of formatting, the master’s dissertations need to be written with double-spaces and can be printed on both sides of the paper. One should also include a generous margin on both the sides. It is better to bind the dissertation and put it in a compact folder or file. Make sure that the pages are numbered, with the word count specified on the title page.

An essential Annexure of the master’s dissertation is the bibliography. It should include all works that are cited in the dissertation. Moreover, it needs to be sorted in alphabetic order, where the online sources need to be listed separately. Make sure that the reference and citation style is consistent throughout, and follows the Harvard reference style. Dissertations that are poorly referenced will result in a reduction of the mark, so please make sure you reference properly. Before submitting your master’s dissertation, it is essential to attach a signed declaration for zero plagiarism.
