Dissertation The dissertation will develop themes relevant to the student’s studies during the taught element of the Masters Degree programme and/or related to the student’s employment (past or current). Selection of the topic rests with the student who may consult appropriate members of staff as required.

The dissertation will develop themes relevant to the student’s studies during the taught element of the Masters Degree programme and/or related to the student’s employment (past or current). Selection of the topic rests with the student who may consult appropriate members of staff as required.
 
The dissertation will normally include the following:
1. A justification of the choice of the topic;
2. Exhibition of knowledge and critical analysis of existing literature, evidenced by a comprehensive list of references;
3. Some evidence of original work in the form of primary data collection, field research, observation, secondary data research; and analysis and synthesis of findings – supported by a description and justification of the method(s) used;
4. Conclusions, with an assessment of their general applicability, supported by relevant analytical procedures.
 
The dissertation will not normally exceed 18,000 words and should conform to the guidelines described by the respective universities. Normally, all students will be expected to undertake, and successfully complete, a research methods module prior to commencing work on their dissertation.
